Dauntsey Academy Primary School

Sports, Swimming & PE

At Dauntsey Academy Primary School, pupils develop their agility, balance and coordination to play games, swim, dance and perform gymnastic and athletic skills. They experience a diverse range of sporting activities taught by both teachers and coaches, but are also given the opportunity to take part in clubs during and after school where they can further develop their passion for physical exercise and sport.

Pupils understand the importance of exercise to their health and their well-being. They develop their leadership skills and are able to work as part of a team. Pupils experience the thrill of taking part in physical competition during lessons, sports days and festivals. They also experience the challenge of outdoor and adventurous activities at school and on residential trips in Key Stage Two.

We have strong links with both Dauntsey’s School and Lavington School and these enrich our PE and school sport on offer. Our Year 6 Class enjoy a weekly sports lesson with PE coaches from Dauntsey’s School, developing and applying their hockey, football and cricket skills. In addition to this, Dauntsey’s host our swimming lessons (each class enjoys a term of swimming) and our annual Swimming Gala. We welcome coaches from PH Sports in on a Friday to enrich our PE and sports curriculum further with high quality coaching for all year groups.  We also take the opportunity to participate in many sports festivals hosted by Lavington throughout the year and attend festivals organised by other schools and clubs in Devizes.
