What will your child need?

Children need to have their reading book in school every day and Boom Reader will be checked on a Monday morning. |

| PE kit | Children will have sports coaches from PH Sports on a Friday morning and a class teacher session on a Tuesday. Please can the children wear their PE kit to school on these days and remember a PE hoody and tracksuit trousers or leggings for colder weather days. | |||||
| Forest School kit |
Children will need appropriate outdoor clothing for forest school which covers their arms and legs (Terms 1, 3 and 5). |

| Water Bottles | Children should only have water in their bottles – no juice, squash or fizzy. Water bottles should be taken home daily to be washed out and re-filled. | |||||
| Mid-morning snack | Morning snack should be fresh or dried fruit/vegetables only please – no fruit winders etc. |
Reading & Home Learning
Children should be reading five times a week at home to support their reading progression. This will also boost their self-esteem and love of reading. We will be checking Boom Reader on a Monday morning, but they need to bring their reading books into school every day.
Communication & permissions

Please make sure you are signed up to Seesaw. If you are not yet signed up, please contact the school office. We use Seesaw as a communication tool and digital portfolio that allows you to have a personalised window into your child’s time at school. The class teacher and your child can document any learning so that it can be shared, supported and celebrated. |

Hazel Class Learning Journey - Term 1
In Term 1, we will be learning about the still life artist Giorgio Morandi and we will refine our drawing skills, focusing on lines and detail.
We will also be learning about Britain’s settlement by Scots and Anglo-Saxons. We will find out why the Anglo-Saxons came to Britain, what life was like and what kingdoms were formed.
In Design Technology, we will be exploring what is really in our food. We will be making pizza, mini bread rolls and soup.
Hazel Class Learning Journey - Term 2
In Term 2, we will be learning how to identify the position and significance of latitude, longitude, Equator etc.
In DT, we will be investigating how hinges work. We will select a range of modelling materials and tools to make our own hinged products, evaluating and modifying them throughout.
In Geography, we will be learning about physical geography including: climate zones, biomes and vegetation belts, rivers, mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes and the water.
Hazel Class Learning Journey - Term 3
In Term 3, we will be learning about the features of rivers. In Design Technology, we will be focusing on mechanisms and will be investigating how hinges work. We will select a range of modelling materials and tools to make our own hinged products, evaluating and modifying them throughout.
Hazel Class Learning Journey - Term 4
In Term 4, we will be finding out why the Vikings invaded and settled in England. We will learn about the power struggle between the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons as well as the establishment of Danelaw. We will also be looking at the traditional designs of kente cloth. We will create a range of surfaces, combing colour, texture and pattern. We will also explore the symbolic significance of colour.
Hazel Class Learning Journey - Term 5
In Term 5, we will be learning about when the first civilizations appeared and what their achievements were. We will be focussing on Ancient Egypt and finding out about the Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom and New Kingdom. In Art, we will be exploring proportion and scale by creating images of the human form.
