This term the children’s topic will be ‘Earth as an Island’. This is a Geography based unit and will explore various island communities and how islands prosper across the globe.
We will investigate the use of maps and how they depict the landscape. We will be using co-ordinates to find landmarks and using scale to show distance.
As part of this unit we will also be investigating Andy Warhol and the ‘Pop Art' movement. They will create images based around famous pictures by Andy Warhol and will then design their own self-portraits using techniques and styles influenced by the artist. We will be using a new App on the iPads called ‘Pencil sketch’, this allows photos to be converted into pencil drawings and then subsequently coloured in the style of Warhol.
The children will also be creating tie dyed t-shirts as modelled by Mrs Brewer!
In Forest school the children will be making swings and shelters. For more information check the topic web underneath.
This term also sees the children sit their SAT papers. These will be on the week commencing 13th May. The children have worked extremely hard throughout this year in all areas of the curriculum and these assessments are just a snap shot of what they are capable of.
