Meet the Governors

Welcome to the Governing Body

The Governing Body is responsible for working with the school to ensure that it delivers a good quality of education. Together with the head teacher, who is responsible for day-to-day management, they set the school's aims and policies.

Governors have three main strategic functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding the head teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure it's money is well spent

The Governing Body at DAPS is currently comprised of 15 Governors.

The Governing Body meets between 5 and 6 times during the academic year. Standing items at each meeting are the head teacher's report and reports from each of the committees:

  • The Teaching and Learning committee monitors the curriculum, standards and attainment
  • The Communications committee looks at how the Governing Body communicates it's work
  • The Premises and Finance committee sets and monitors budgets and managed resources

Various smaller working groups are set up as the need arises to deal with other issues.

This document is published by the National Governor Association and details the roles and responsibilities of School Governors. Please see document in' Other Useful Information' below.

  • Our visibility within the School

The strategic function of the Governing Body means that we aren't involved in the day to day running of the school. However, we recognise it is crucially important that we have a presence and that the staff, children and parents/carers know who we are. We achieve this is various ways;

  • We visit the School during school hours.
  • We attend nearly all School functions and events (we wear ID badges with identifiable green lanyards).
  • A noticeboard near the School Office has out details on, and shows if a Governor is in School that day.

  • Our Safeguarding responsibility

As with any member of staff we receive training on safeguarding and the Prevent Duty. Records of our training are held in the School Office. Our named Governor for Safeguarding is Mrs L Evans.

  • The Role of the Link Governor at DAPS

Governors bring their own professional experience with them to contribute to the strategic development of the School. We link ourselves to staff members who are leading on an area or topic within the School Development Plan. We contact this staff member several times throughout the year, our aim is to be a critical friend.
