Welcome to Alder Class

You will find lots of exciting information and photographs here on our class page.

Please make sure you are signed up to Seesaw. If you are not yet signed up, please contact the school office. We want Seesaw as a communication tool and digital portfolio that allows you to have a personalised window into your child's time at school. The class teacher and your child can document any learning so that it can be shared, supported and celebrated.

A few important things that you can help and support your child at home with:

  • PE is on Thursdays and Fridays.
  • Forest School is on a Wednesday afternoon.
  • Children must read as much as possible at home. They will receive a Merit for 'five reads a week'. As you can imagine, this will not only support them in their progression but enrich their self-esteem which is vital to positive learning.
  • Please practice times tables every week. Times tables underpin a child's ability to develop mathematically in all areas.
  • Spelling tests will happen every Wednesday so please ensure your child knows their spellings. It makes more sense to learn their spellings and then practise it within a sentence as this embeds what they have learn.
  • Thank you all in advance for your support in this.
  • If you have any questions, or any problems regarding the above, please do pop in and see us and I can arrange an appropriate time to speak with you.
  • Term 6

This term, we have started a brand new topic which is called 'Saving the World'. We will be finding out lots of exciting facts about the rainforests and the animals that live there. It is going to be brilliant!

The Big Idea:

Rainforests once covered 20% of our world's surface. Now they cover only 5%. Every second, an area of the rainforest the size of a football field is being destroyed. Some scientists believe that, if we lose our rainforests, we might put our whole planet at risk. What will we do to help save the rainforest?

As Mrs Perrin couldn't arrange a school trip to the jungle, we had a very special visitor come to see us. Jungle Jonathan brought in lots of incredible rainforest animals. We had spiders, geckos, snakes and lots more. We all got a chance to hold the animals even Mrs Perrin was brave enough to hold the snake.

Alder Class and Hazel Class worked together to put on an amazing performance of 'Jungle Rock'. The singing, dancing and acting was incredible. Well done everyone! The children even designed their own masks.
